Indian Railways has made significant improvements to enhance passenger convenience, including the ability to cancel railway tickets online. Even if you purchased your ticket from a counter, you can still cancel it through the IRCTC website or app. However, there are a few important points to keep in mind during the cancellation process.
As most passengers now book their train tickets through IRCTC, the platform offers a straightforward way to manage cancellations and refunds. So, if you’ve booked a ticket and need to cancel it, the process can easily be done online, saving you time and effort.
Did you know that if you’ve bought a ticket at the PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counter, you can also cancel it online via the IRCTC website or app? Here’s everything you need to know:
How to Cancel a PRS Counter Ticket Online:
- Visit the IRCTC website: Go to this link.
- Select “Cancel Ticket”: You’ll find this option on the website.
- Enter the Details: You’ll need to provide your PNR number, train number, and the security captcha shown on the page.
- OTP Verification: An OTP will be sent to the mobile number you provided when booking the ticket. Enter this OTP to proceed.
- Confirm the Cancellation: After entering the OTP, a confirmation box will appear with the details of your ticket. Once you confirm, the cancellation process will be completed.
- Submit: Tap the submit button, and your counter ticket will be canceled.
How to Get a Refund:
For a refund, you’ll need to visit the nearest PRS counter with your canceled ticket. Here’s how it works:
- If you’ve canceled a confirmed ticket, you need to reach the PRS counter at least 4 hours before the train’s scheduled departure.
- If it’s a waiting list or RAC ticket, you can get a refund if you submit the ticket at the PRS counter up to 30 minutes before departure.
