If you work for the Centre, your phone has probably been buzzing since October 28. The Union Cabinet has approved the Central Government Employees DA Hike 2026, and Dearness Allowance now stands at 63% of basic pay, up from 60%.

The new rate applies from July 1, 2026. So you’re not just getting a higher allowance going forward. You’re also owed arrears for the months already gone by. Let’s see what this means for pay Levels 1 to 10, where most employees sit.

What Exactly Has Changed?

The government raised DA and Dearness Relief (DR) by 3 percentage points. Serving employees move from 60% to 63% of basic pay, and pensioners move from 60% to 63% of basic pension.

According to the official announcement, about 48.54 lakh employees and 68.71 lakh pensioners will benefit. The estimated annual cost is ₹10,016.10 crore. You can read the full release on the PIB website.

A Quick Note on “3% Salary Increase”

Some headlines say salaries are going up by 3%. That’s a bit loose. The extra 3% is added to your DA rate and calculated on your basic pay, not on your total salary or take-home pay. So the rupee amount you gain depends on where you sit in the pay matrix.

DA Hike 2026 for Pay Levels 1 to 10

This table uses the entry-level basic pay for each level in the 7th Pay Commission matrix. If you’ve been in service for a few years, your basic will be higher, and so will your increase.

Pay Level Entry Basic Pay DA at 60% DA at 63% Monthly Increase
Level 1 ₹18,000 ₹10,800 ₹11,340 ₹540
Level 2 ₹19,900 ₹11,940 ₹12,537 ₹597
Level 3 ₹21,700 ₹13,020 ₹13,671 ₹651
Level 4 ₹25,500 ₹15,300 ₹16,065 ₹765
Level 5 ₹29,200 ₹17,520 ₹18,396 ₹876
Level 6 ₹35,400 ₹21,240 ₹22,302 ₹1,062
Level 7 ₹44,900 ₹26,940 ₹28,287 ₹1,347
Level 8 ₹47,600 ₹28,560 ₹29,988 ₹1,428
Level 9 ₹53,100 ₹31,860 ₹33,453 ₹1,593
Level 10 ₹56,100 ₹33,660 ₹35,343 ₹1,683

To work out your own number, multiply your basic pay by 0.03. For a basic of ₹30,000, that’s an extra ₹900 a month.

What About the Arrears?

Since the hike counts from July 1, 2026, you’re entitled to the difference for the months before the new rate starts showing up in your salary. If the arrears come with your November pay, that would cover four months: July, August, September, and October.

As a rough guide, a Level 1 employee at entry pay would see around ₹2,160 (₹540 × 4), and a Level 10 employee about ₹6,732 (₹1,683 × 4). Treat these as ballpark figures. The announcement doesn’t confirm a payment date, so wait for your department’s official order and check your salary slip.

Pensioners Get the Same 3 Points

Dearness Relief also goes up from 60% to 63% of basic pension. A pensioner drawing ₹20,000 will get ₹12,600 a month in DR, compared with ₹12,000 earlier. That’s an extra ₹600 each month.

Why Does DA Go Up?

Prices rise, and DA is there to soften the blow. The Centre reviews the rate twice a year, based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). When living costs climb, DA follows. With Diwali around the corner, the timing will be welcome for many households.

Final Word

The Central Government Employees DA Hike 2026 won’t change your life overnight, but it’s a real, steady boost. Level 1 employees gain about ₹540 a month at entry pay, and Level 10 employees about ₹1,683. Add the arrears from July, and the lump sum could be a handy Diwali top-up.
